AT&T awards $14,000 to NORWICH PATHWAY TO COLLEGE AND CAREERS PROGRAM

NORWICH, CT – Sankofa Education and Leadership Inc. has been awarded a $14,000 contribution from the AT&T Foundation to support students in their pursuit of college and career goals.

The AT&T Foundation contribution will support student supplies, field trip transportation, scholarships, and other program expenses for the Pathway to College and Careers program, which provides educational, enrichment and mentorship programs to underserved high school students in Norwich.

“It is through these partnerships that students are afforded opportunities and increased options to choose their educational paths toward success,” Rep. Riley said. “I congratulate Sankofa Educational Leadership for their indispensable work and thank President John Emra and AT&T Connecticut for their generous support.”

Sankofa’s Pathway to College and Careers program will engage marginalized, under-represented and underserved high school students in three major areas: The Freedom 2 Be Creative, The Courage 2 Pursue Your Dreams and The Promise 2 Thrive and Succeed. Students will receive in-person or virtual learning assistance through workshops, guest speakers and visits to colleges.

“This invaluable contribution by AT&T Foundation will help prepare Norwich youth with the freedom and courage to pursue their dreams and the ability to thrive and succeed in college and in their careers,” said Ms. Carline Charmelus, Sankofa Education and Leadership, Inc. Board Chair.

“AT&T aims to identify programs that are making real differences in the lives of local students, and this college and career readiness program is a prime example,” said John Emra, President, AT&T Connecticut. “The effort to prepare and support students in pursuit of their college and career goals is an impactful resource for Connecticut’s youth, and we are very proud to offer our support.”
